Students Step into the Spotlight: University Launches Creative Time Lapse Competition with Guest Photographer Paul Kemp

In a vibrant celebration of creativity, campus life, and authentic English communication, CHU and ETI have launched their first-ever Time Lapse Challenge, inviting students to capture the beauty and spirit of university life, one frame at a time.

The competition kicked off with a special visit from guest photographer Paul Kemp, who mesmerized the campus community with a time lapse he filmed at the university entrance. His dynamic footage captured the flow and energy of this familiar space and set the stage for what promises to be a compelling and creative contest. Paul then issued a challenge to students; find the most interesting, beautiful, or inspiring spots on campus and bring them to life through time lapse photography.

This competition is more than just a visual showcase. In keeping with the university’s strong commitment to holistic English education and the use of language in real-world, meaningful ways, each entry must also include a brief written introduction in English. In their introductions, students are asked to explain why they chose their filming location and what story their time lapse tells about campus life.

Prizes will be awarded not only for the most captivating time lapse videos, but also for the most thoughtful and well-crafted English introductions, highlighting both technical and linguistic creativity, and reinforcing the university’s commitment to holistic language learning.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for students to blend artistic expression with authentic English use,” said Dr. Hsin-Wen Chang, Dean of the College of Tourism. “It’s part of our broader mission to bring language learning into everyday experiences and inspire students to see English not just as a subject, but as a tool for storytelling and connection—with others and with the world around them.”
